Shirt VII – Nuptiale

The collar of this shirt was inspired by the starched, removable collars of days gone by. Reinvented on a modern shirt, it enhances the way the wearer carries his head. Its wider cut and gathers in the back provide added volume. A subtle feature of the sleeve: gathers starting at the top of the doghouse placket; an unusual twist found on the button closures of peasant shirts in the 1900s.

  • The Bourrienne cut (inspired by period shirt cuts: a more generous volume, a longer shoulder line,  gathers at the back)
  • Collar inspired by old-fashioned removable collars, worn high (not folded down)
  • Single placket
  • Rounded overstitched cuffs with gathering at top of placket
  • Gathers in the sleeve, at the cuff
  • Gathering at the back
  • Ottoman gusset with the shirt’s Roman numeral embroidered tone-on-tone on the left-hand side
  • Matt Australian mother-of-pearl buttons
  • 6 stitches/centimetre
