The life of a Bourrienne shirt
How Are Our Shirts Created?
Where and how are they made?
The Bourrienne shirt draws its inspiration from the heritage of French shirts, vintage pieces, iconography, paintings, old films, flea markets, museums... Our collections are created based on discoveries and the desires of the moment.
Creating our collections is also about the encounter between a design, a craftsman, and a fabric. It involves matching the right model with the right fabric and the right cut, then adorning it with details often inspired by the decor of the Hôtel de Bourrienne. Each shirt has a name, embroidered on its cuff, which gives it a unique identity.
The collections are created by Cécile, sketched in pencil and watercolor on notebooks that accumulate with each new collection. The designs then come to life.
Each pattern is crafted with care and expertise.
The shirts take shape through draping or flat cutting, depending on the model’s characteristics. The prototype is then adjusted multiple times to achieve the perfect fit, ensuring impeccable drape and finish.
The fabrics are also carefully selected from the finest Italian weavers. Custom finishing often requires several weeks of production. The buttons, made of matte Australian mother-of-pearl, adorn each of our models.
Once the model is technically perfected, we send it to production in our European workshops. This stage requires approximately six weeks of manufacturing.
A strict quality control is then necessary to check every measurement, every embroidery, and every stitch in the factory.
Finally, the production is shipped to our warehouses and to our boutique on Rue d'Hauteville, ready to come to life on our customers.
This is when the story of each of our shirts truly begins. Memories are created, models are passed down. Each of our shirts will tell its own story over time, shaped by the personality of its wearer.
