WEDDING - What shirt for the groom?
You're getting married, congratulations!
During this event, every detail counts, including your outfit. Among the key elements of the groom's attire is the shirt. It may seem like a simple choice, but finding the perfect shirt for your big day is not as easy as it seems. Here are some tips to help you.
The first thing to decide is what style you want to adopt. Indeed, your wedding outfit should reflect your personal style and fit the tone of the event. The main thing is that you feel comfortable and confident in it. If you like wearing suits and don't mind getting hot, you can adopt a timeless style by combining a sober suit with a classic shirt. Bourrienne Paris X offers you many classic shirts with a French collar , with the possibility of playing on the details thanks to different cuffs or a romantic cut.
You can also play the bold card with an original shirt worn with or without a jacket . Today, a jacket is no longer necessarily required for getting married! If you want to adopt a style that suits you, more relaxed without being less sophisticated, you can choose a creative shirt that emphasizes artisanal details, such as pleats or embroidery. The Esquisse shirt , with its embroidered button placket that echoes the painted friezes of the Hôtel de Bourrienne, will be ideal if you don't want to wear a tie. You will surely also like our bib shirts.
If you are getting married by the sea, if you are looking for a shirt for brunch the next day, or simply if you want a very casual shirt, you can find our more casual shirts , and choose linen.
What color for your shirt?
There are no rules for your wedding day, but we have been a house specializing in white shirts since the beginning, and we would therefore advise you to choose white, and if you wish, to put more originality in the cut of your shirt. Indeed, traditionally, the color of the groom's shirt remains white. Wearing patterns is quite risky, and sky blue is rather reserved for professional occasions.
What material?
Wedding shirts are traditionally made of cotton. At Bourrienne Paris X, we offer you many models in double-twisted Italian cotton poplin of very high quality that will be ideal for your wedding. The tight weave of the poplin gives it a particularly appreciable silky finish.
But if you are getting married in a warm period, or if you want a more casual look, don't hesitate to get married in linen ! The Cavalier linen shirt allows you to keep the codes of the white wedding shirt, by twisting it with its material. Comédien and Lavis are more original, and at the same time particularly elegant due to their pleating on the bib.
Finally, if you want an elegant shirt that is not made of cotton poplin, you can choose seersucker, a waffle cotton that is particularly breathable and suitable for summer temperatures.
What collar?
Here, all choices are available to you. The choice of collar depends of course on the presence or absence of a tie, a bow tie or even a lavallière.
If you choose a lavallière , the broken collar will not be negotiable. The Bridal shirt is then ideal, you can slightly break its high collar using an iron, so that the collar covers the knot of the lavallière a little.
However, if you choose a bow tie, the broken collar, which has long remained part of the dress code, is no longer mandatory. The bow tie is indeed worn wonderfully with a French collar , for a slightly less formal effect. The most important thing is that the collar is small enough to highlight and not hide the bow tie. However, not all collars are made to accommodate a bow tie since, to optimize the hold of the knot on the collar of the shirt, the latter must be neither too large nor too open. The Italian collar is therefore to be avoided. In addition, shirts with an officer collar, high collar, which do not have a flap facing outwards, cannot accommodate a bow tie.
Finally, for the tie, shirts with a French collar (left) and an Italian collar (right), slightly more open, are ideal.
But if you want to wear your shirt without a tie or bow tie, you don't have to stick to the French and Italian collar. High collars are particularly elegant for a wedding! The same goes for officer collars , which are also without flaps but less high than the previous ones. Apparat , on the left, and Nuptiale on the right will surely please you.
What wrists?
Unlike classic cuffs that are easy to wear on a daily basis, musketeer cuffs have an elegance that is ideal for a wedding! You can wear your musketeer cuff shirts with simple or more original cufflinks , which will bring distinction to your outfit. Don't hesitate to look at our range of cufflinks that we offer, in gold or silver, inspired by the floral patterns of the Hôtel de Bourrienne, and which can perfect your groom's outfit.
The Bourrienne cuffs will otherwise bring a touch of the most beautiful effect to your outfit! These cuffs, which you will not find anywhere else, are inspired by the pulls of old plastrons to offer you a romantic volume at the level of the sleeves. Here, no need for cufflinks, these cuffs representing artisanal know-how are sufficient in themselves, and make all the character of your shirt.
What cut?
You may have already seen it, but we offer two different shirt cuts in our range of men's and women's shirts: the fitted cut and the Bourrienne cut.
The Bourrienne cut has gathers at the back, and has a shoulder line that falls slightly below the shoulder, which creates a volume inspired by period shirts. While the fitted cut lends itself very well to wearing a suit, if you do not prefer to wear a jacket we recommend a Bourrienne cut, which creates a beautiful effect in the back, characteristic of the House. Perfectly adapted to the dress codes of the wedding, this cut is both elegant and original.
Whatever your choice, you won't go unnoticed!
