A Funny Valentine - Reissue of the Conjugal Shirt

Valentine's Day is indeed the celebration of lovers, but why not take the opportunity to comply with God's will?

Not even a century ago, prudishness was such that religious teachers who taught children the alphabet did not pronounce the letter 'Q'. They would say: 'm, n, o, p, the unmentionable letter, r, s...'. The zeal of the '68ers surely helped to make the 'Q' more prevalent, because today it's not the 'Q' that is skipped.

To celebrate Valentine's Day, we have decided to launch a capsule collection, as a playful nod steeped in history. We wanted to reissue the 'conjugal shirt', a historical garment that played an important role in the marital life of couples from the 18th century until the end of the 19th century. This shirt, given by nuns to young girls to create their wedding trousseau, featured a slit designed for the wedding night while minimizing nudity as much as possible."

It was named throughout the centuries: "chemise with a Parisian opening", "chemise to make a Christian", "chemise with the happiness hole"...

This famous opening was sometimes adorned with encouraging comments, unless it was a user manual for the less experienced? For example, one might find embroidered the phrase: "God wills it".

In those days, the shirt was made of hemp: a material so rough and tough that the shirt was often entrusted to governesses who wore it to soften the fabric in preparation for the wedding night. To spare you this discomfort, our soft linen shirt is very pleasant to the touch.
